Just Up-To-Dating...

Okay, I'm tired of being the one who never updates her blog. Seriously, I could spend hours uploading pictures and stuff and I just am LAZY! So, I'll start off with a baby step and make a commitment to bring it more current over the next couple of weeks.

How about starting off with a transition from the last post? I'm still sick of being sick...I'm not really sick, but I'm still coughing. It annoys me and everyone around me. I went to a doctor about a month ago who said it was hanging on because of my asthma and there was nothing I could do about it. I'm going back in again tomorrow because I'm going to lose my @*#! mind! Actually, it hasn't seemed to be quite as bad the last 2 days - which is really nice because I've been training a class and that's really not so fun when you stand up in front and hack for the whole time - but I'm still going to go in, just in case.

Well, I know it's nothing exciting to read, but it's all your getting for now. We've had some really fun things that have happened over the last 2 months, but I don't want to overdo it all at once. ;)

Sick of Being Sick...

Started coughing Friday, but thought it was just my asthma being obnoxious from my time at the gym. Went to the doctor Saturday night (BTW, the only InstaCare open that evening was in BOUNTIFUL) because I had a fever and felt awful...and my coworker had gone in earlier and was being treated for h1n1 - hurray! They decided I had the same (or to treat it as such - didn't have the ability to run the absolute test unless $$$ at the hospital, but said they were pretty sure), so I had to find a pharmacy that was open (took me 3 attempts).

I didn't get home until about midnight - I've noticed that these things always happen when Rob's working, leaving me by myself, all whiny like the baby I am. Coincidence? I'm beginning to wonder... I really shouldn't joke about that because he's been really good about helping me out. As soon as I started getting an appetite back, he even made me pizza - and it was REALLY YUMMY!!!

Anyway, now I'm stuck at home with nothing to do that I want to do. Caught up on my TV from the last 3 weeks. Finished Harry Potter Book 7 on my iPod. And, of course...

Thought since I felt like I was dead I would make funeral potatoes one day. That was tasty...and SO against my diet! That's probably been the greatest adventure.

Sorry blog-readers. Nothing exciting to read here. Hoping to be cleared for duty soon. Doc said as soon as I stay fever-free for 24 hours, so maybe back to work by Thursday? We'll see...

High School Flashbacks?

When I refer to taking a fitness test do you all immediately have horrible flashbacks to highschool gym class and having someone like this yelling at you?For those of you who aren't aware, I've started working out with a personal trainer a few times each week (NO he's nothing like the one above!). His name is Chad and he's actually really nice - in fact, I give him a hard time for not being hard enough on me sometimes.

Once each month I have a fitness test to see how much my strength and endurance has improved. This includes all the dreaded classics. I do the situps. I can't do pushups because of the cysts in my wrist, so I test on a verticle chest press machine. I do the pullups (on a sweet machine that helps by pulling part of your weight for you, so it's not quite like this picture). One of my favorite (that's sarcastic, by the way) is the plank. I was happy to find this picture on the internet because I didn't quite know how to explain it. Basically you just sit in this position and hang out - it's great for your core. If you feel like you're in pretty good shape, give this a try and see how long you can hold it without shooting your behind into the air or dropping your knees to the ground. (They had a contest at my gym a couple of months ago and the winner held this position for about 5 minutes.)This week, Chad added a new item to the test where you see how long you can sit against the wall at a ninety degree angle (as if you were in a chair). I have a feeling that one's gonna hurt tomorrow, too.

The last joyful piece of the dreaded fitness test is the mile. Each month I run it and he records my time. Each month gets better, but each month stinks just the same. For our weekly workouts, I've teamed up with a friend so we get longer sessions and have a stronger support system in place. We do both cardio and strength training...and watch what we eat throughout the week. This is the classic combination that is time-tested and proven again and again.

I hear over and over from friends that they don't have time to exercise or that they'd rather try some miracle diet - I've said it myself. BUT IF YOU WANT TO BE HEALTHY, YOU HAVE TO LIVE HEALTHILY! Regardless of anything else, a healthy lifestyle is going to include some form of exercise.

My friend Melissa is an inspiration to all who know her. She has lost a drastic amount of weight the last couple of years all on her own, through diet and exercise. She has more self-discipline than any other living human being I know. What an example! She's living proof that it's possible.

If you are one of those people who are telling yourself that you don't have the time or the willpower, you're lying to yourself! I still get a little bit of that sick feeling in my stomach when I realize it's time for my fitness test again, but it's so rewarding to see the improvement in the numbers, to look and fit better in my clothes, but more importantly to FEEL more healthy. I'm not there yet, but I know I can get there and that I'm headed the right direction. AND, if I can do it, SO CAN YOU!

So excited...today I get to spend the morning with by parents and a few of my siblings at the Ogden Temple, followed by lunch at Costa Vida. Definitely beats a day at the office!

The jury is still out...

I checked out a new TV show this week called The Vampire Diaries. I won't say I was amazed or consumed by it, but it's peaked my interest for the moment. I think they did a fair job on the casting...possibly some who'd be closer in my mind to the Twilight characters...

How about this for Edward? Paul Wesley - maybe not the one in my head, but better than the other in my opinion.

Here he is again on the left, Nina Dobrey in the center (could pass as Bella), and Ian Somerhalder on the right (don't know who he'd play, but he's not bad, either).

This show is based on it's own book series, but really does seem Twilightesque. Paul plays "Stefan" who is a non-human-eating vampire. Nina plays "Elena" who is the main character (human) and Stefan's love interest (and yes, she trips and falls in the very first episode...that's Bella isn't it?). Ian plays "Damon", Stefan's bad vamp brother.

If you're interested, check it out on the CW (my channel 30), Thursday night at 7:00.
